However, at present the majority of students are studying guitar by themselves on the Internet or at home. Therefore, you may not understand the stretching finger exercises well and how to start hands warm up before playing. The following exercises will help maintain healthy hands, improve the flexibility and comfort while you play the guitar. It also increases flexibility of mobile and independent movements of each hand, and also reduces the “sticky keys” problem, and technical error during your guitar learning progress afterwards.

The steps in the finger stretching exercises
1. Close and spread the fingers
Put your hands facing up, with the fingers together loosely. Then you slowly spread them out all the way down. Hold that position for a few seconds, and then close your fingers slowly, back to the original position. You should perform these closing and spreading fingers actions from 5 to 10 times.
2. Turn the thumb
Put the thumb upwards (with the remaining fingers facing the palm). Then you slowly rotate your thumb along the circle. Then after a few seconds, you continue to rotate the thumb in the opposite direction. Repeat these actions from 5 to 10 times.
3. Spread and hold
Putting hands upwards, fingers spread out. Then you slowly shrink your fingers to form a fist, with the thumb outside the forefinger. Be sure not to squeeze your hand too tight and keep this position for a few seconds. Then open the fingers and spread them out to return to the starting position. You do the hands spreading and holding exercises from 5 to 10 times.
4. Shrink fingers
Putting hands upwards, fingers spread out. Then, shrink each finger (forefinger, middle, ring, youngest) to touch the thumb, hold this position for a few seconds and then open. When performing this exercise, you should remember to always keep your hand in spreading position as in the beginning; just the fingers touch the thumb. Please perform this exercise for each finger respectively from 5 to 10 times.
5. Shrink wrist and rotate arm
Sit on a chair (or standing as in the photo below), and put your arms on the armchair, so that the back of your wrist touches the top point of the chair, your hands and your fingers facing up and streaking out of the
- Action 1: Slowly shrink your wrist; pull your hands upwards, fingers twitching inside. Hold this position for a few seconds. Then slowly lower your wrist and hand down to return to the original position. Repeat this action from 5 to 10 times.
- Action 2: You have to maintain a sitting position on a chair as the beginning and keep your elbows motionless, then slowly rotate your arm until the palm facing down. Hold that position for a few seconds, and then slowly rotate the arm back to the starting position, with hands facing up. Repeat this action from 5 to 10 times.
